Understanding HOLE MORE PUTTS™ Technology?

How does the HOLE MORE PUTTS™ Infrared Technology work?

HOLE MORE PUTTS™ uses patented infrared technology to capture the key measurements of your putting stroke. There are over 60 infrared light sensors in your tablet taking 6,600+ measures every second.

The tablet also measures and takes account of surrounding (or ambient) light conditions and the light being absorbed by your putter:

(1) Surrounding (ambient) light measurement: The tablet measures the lighting conditions you are putting in – e.g. indoors but well lit, outdoors but overcast, bright sunny, etc. – and adjusts the sensitivity of the infrared sensors.

You should always use the HMP tablet in good lighting conditions – indoors and outdoors.

(2) Putter light absorption: Some colours reflect light (White) while others absorb light (Black).  Other colours sit somewhere in the middle (Silver, Brass, Red and so on).

To get accurate readings, you should ensure your putter is Paired with your tablet (see below).

Putter Pairing

How to pair your putter correctly?

Pair your Tablet with your putter for accurate and consistent measurement of your stroke. Pairing ensures your tablet has the correct light settings for your putter.

(1) First turn on your Tablet and go to:
Menu* → Pairing Your Putter

(2) Position the Pairing Stand and putter as per the image below and follow the on screen instructions.
Ensure that the putter is not moving during this process.

Pairing your putter tight to the white lines as shown in the diagram will ensure that your putter is completely covering the sensor below it.

Incorrect Putter Pairing

What figures to expect when pairing your tablet?

Putters come in widely varying colours and materials, some have a matte finish whilst other are shiny, these characteristics can significantly alter the amount of light that is absorbed or reflected by the Infrared sensors.

The table below shows the pairing values most commonly seen. If you are in doubt when pairing your putter, please get in touch via email support@holemoreputts.com , provide as with an image of the bottom of your putter and a description of the lighting conditions and we will give you an expected ‘pairing’ range.

You will be able to see the pairing ratio on your Tablet in these locations, whilst pairing and whilst using your Tablet

It is important when lighting conditions change significantly or a different putter is used that you ‘pair’ your putter again.

Putters requiring Pairing Strips

On occasion it is not possible to naturally ‘pair’ a putter with the Tablet, this is down to 2 reasons.

(1) The range and strength of conflicting colours at the bottom of the putter is such that the sensors get confused and will give a reading outside of the desired range of measurement.

(2) There is an abnormal surface above the putter when pairing, this can typically be lead tape applied to the putter surface or simply there is no surface to measure.

We will soon provide a full list of all putters requiring a ‘Pairing Strip’. Estimated availability is 1st November 2017

Applying tape for Putter Pairing

How to use Pairing Strips?

Some putter designs make it difficult to get an accurate light absorption reading – multi-coloured, large logos on the base, irregular surfaces etc. In such cases, the pairing value will be outside the ranges shown above and you should use a Pairing Strip (supplied).

In instances like this, we need to create a ‘pairable’ surface, this is done by using the enclosed ‘Pairing Strips’

Apply a Pairing Strip to the base of your putter as shown. Ensure that:

1) It runs in line with the leading edge of the putter.

2) The dotted line in the white area is lined up with the centre (or sweet spot if different) of the putter.

3) If the strip is longer than your putter, the edges of the strip are wrapped around the heel and toe.

Pairing Strip

Pairing Strip needs to be aligned to the centre/sweet spot of the putter

Correct & Incorrect application of the Pairing Strip

When you have applied the Pairing Strip to the base of your putter, you will have created a virtual white putter, which when paired will give a pairing value of 1.0

Note:  You will need to keep the pairing strip on your putter while using the tablet, failure to do so will provide inaccurate data.

We will soon provide a full list of all putters requiring a ‘Pairing Strip’. Estimated availability is 1st November 2017

I'm running out of tape, where can i get more?

You will shortly be able to order additional Pairing Strips online. Estimated availability is 1st November 2017

The green sensor keeps switching off before I hit the ball?

Sensors are set to time out, so that they can reset, make sure that you take your putt as soon as the sensor light turns green.

The HOLE MORE PUTTS™ Tablet keeps says 'Try Again' whilst I am trying to putt?

There are a couple of reasons why the screen might tell you to ‘Try Again’.

  1. Either you have taken to long to take a putt and the process times out, simply reset, line the putter up behind the ball and as soon as the flashing red light turns green, take a putt.
  2. If for some reason you have taken a putt, but the HOLE MORE PUTTS™ Tablet is not able to read the data, it will ask you to please ‘Try Again’. This can be caused either by poor light conditions or the putt itself fell outside of acceptable parameters.

HOLE MORE PUTTS™ Operating Specifications

What are the normal operating ranges for each Impact Factor?

HOLE MORE PUTTS™ measures 5 Impact Factors defined by the PGA. It is designed to operate within the following ranges.

  • Face Angle: -10˚ to +10˚
  • Impact Point: -25 mm to +25 mm
  • Path: -15˚ to +15˚
  • Speed: -1.5 m/s to 0 m/s
  • Attack Angle: -6˚ to 6˚

Putting outside these ranges may cause your measurements to be inaccurate.

Why is Impact Speed measured in m/s (metres per second)?

HOLE MORE PUTTS™ measures the speed of your clubhead as it comes to impact with the ball. When using HOLE MORE PUTTS™ we ask you to setup for an 8ft putt. Speed on an 8ft putt varies between 0.6m/s and 0.8m/s depending on the speed of the green/carpet/floor you are putting on.

The reason why we use m/s rather than say mph / kph is, if you imagine 0.6m/s = 2.16 km/h and 0.7m/s = 2.52 km/h it is very difficult for someone to adjust their putting stroke, slower or faster when there is seemingly very little difference in km/h.

What are the normal operating temperatures to use the HOLE MORE PUTTS™ Tablet?

HOLE MORE PUTTS™ Tablet can be used in temperatures from 0 to +40˚C.
